NC Blog

Hello everyone.

Welcome to my first monthly NC blog post!  I’m a big believer in regular communication, and this is one way of staying in touch with you all.  And it’s also a little indulgence for me; I like blogging, and I love the IoD, and this allows me to combine the two passions in a way that I hope will prove useful.

First thing’s first: I will be reopening all ANC posts as of 9am on Friday 30 November 2015.  I want to be clear that this is absolutely not a critique of the current post holders; I am very impressed by, and grateful for, their hard work to date, and would welcome their reapplications.  My reasons for reopening posts are as follows:

  1. I want to make sure that the current post holders are happy to remain in post.
  2. I wanted to give all of you the opportunity to run for any position you wish.

I want everything to do with the ANC posts to be ship shape and shiny at the beginning of my tenure.  So the following posts are open for applications:

  • Conduct and Complaints
  • Events
  • Membership/Comms
  • Recruitment and Retention
  • Treasurer (not strictly speaking an ANC post but still falling under my remit)

Anyone interested in applying will need to send me an email to nc@islesofdarkness.com stating your name, membership number, IoD CV, which position you are applying for, and why you think you will be good at it.  The closing date for applications is Friday 13th November, which gives everyone 2 weeks to apply.  I will be posting job specs on G+, and will make an emailed copy available on request.  If you have any other questions, please email them to me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I am also canvassing for volunteers for an equality and diversity panel.  This has been a successful initiative where I work, and I am aiming to replicate it within the IoD.  If you are part of a protected group – black and minority ethnic, LGBT*QIA, women, and (I hate this word) ‘disabled’ – or if you consider yourself an ally, please feel free to volunteer.  The equality and diversity panel will essentially be in place to assist with ensuring that members from protected groups have the best IoD experience possible, and to act as advisers and provide support if any issues arise within the society to help ensure positive outcomes for all concerned.  If you are interested, please email me at the NC account (listed above).

I have some other ideas afoot at the moment, but they are still in their developmental stage, so I will refrain from talking about them until I have something concrete to talk about.  In the meantime, feel free to contact me with any questions.

See you next month!
